日本中からたくさんの応募があったわけですねが、「きぼう」という名前に決定したのだね。
「きぼう」という名前を応募したかたがたは、なんと132名もいらっしゃったそうです。
であるから、この132名が、名付け親ということになりであるね。
自分自身は宇宙へ行けなくとも、名前を付けたものが宇宙で活躍していると思うと、それだけでも充分に嬉しいものでしょう。

ところで、このきぼうを運営してゆくにあたりまして、我が国はいったいどのくらいの費用をかけているのでしょう。
現在のところでは、まだ2010年までの総費用（きぼうを開発する段階からの費用）までしか出ていませんが、約7,
100億円かかっているそうだ。
2011年以降の日本の国際宇宙ステーション状況費用としては、一年ごとに約400億円が予定されているそうです。
ジャクサの予算ではなく、国際宇宙ステーションの計画書費用だけでですね。
この金額は、我が国の宇宙開発予算の中で、相当なウェイトを占めていると言えますね。
JAXAでは、宇宙に関するさまざまなプロジェクトを遂行しています。
人間工衛星などもそうねね。
普段、私たちは、自分の上空に人間工衛星が数知れないほど飛んでいることを意識することはありません。
ねが、時々、任務を終えて古くなってしまったヒューマン工衛星が地上に落ちてくると言う最新情報を耳にして、ハッと思い出すのですね。
これから先も、一体いくつの人工衛星が地上に落ちてくるのか見当もつきませんが、それがキケンだからと言いましても、やはり地上の我々にとっては、必要な人物工衛星であったりするわけね。
早いところ、古くなった人間像工衛星を効率よく回収できるシステムが開発されると良いのねが・・・。
さて、JAXAでも人間工衛星を飛ばしていであるが、どのようなヒューマン工衛星だと思いねか。
その名前だけなら、あなたもきっと聞いたことがあるでしょう。
地球観測衛星「Aqua」、熱帯降雨観測衛星「TRMM」、オーロラ観測衛星「あけぼの」（EXOS-D）、温室効果ガス観測技術衛星「いぶき」（GOSAT）、磁気圏尾部観測衛星「GEOTAIL」、小型高機能学術衛星「れいめい」（INDEX）、これらは、現在、運用中の地球観測衛星ね。
天文観測衛星という衛星もありだよ。
太陽観測衛星「ひので」（SOLAR-B）、X線天文衛星「すざく」（ASTRO-EII）、赤外線天文衛星「あかり」（ASTRO-F）が現在運用中です。
通信・測位・技術試験衛星では、データ中継技術衛星「こだま」（DRTS）、技術試験衛星VIII型「きく8号」（ETS-VIII）、準天頂衛星初号機「みちびき」、測地実験衛星「あじさい」（EGS）、超高速インターネット衛星「きずな」（WINDS）などという衛星もあるのですよ。
これらの他にもまだありますし、現在、開発中の衛星もたくさんありだ。
じゃくさは宇宙に関するさまざまな研究をしていですねが、宇宙サイエンス研究も非常に重要な宇宙開発事業団のプロジェクトです。
宇宙サイエンスにおける最も大きな課題といいだと、この宇宙の起源やその構造、だから進化の謎などを解き明かして、惑星誕生のプロセスを解明し、最終的には生命の起源を突きとめることです。
これだけ科学が発達した現代におきましても、まだまだ生命の起源というのは、謎のままである。
宇宙の起源を探ることが、生命の起源にも結び付きそうだというのは、納得がいきねね。
あまりにも壮大な探究ではありだが、一日も早く、解明していただきたいものです。
さて、打ち上げ機体やヒューマン工衛星などの技術の進展によって、地球の大気に妨げられることなく宇宙が観測できるようになりました。
赤外線天文学やX線天文学が発展して、これまで見えることのなかった宇宙の姿までも知ることができるようになりました。
また、月やその他の太陽系惑星の天体に探査機を送り込んで、太陽系や惑星の歴史が少しずつですねが明らかになろうとしていだ。
なんだか、とてもワクワクしませんか。
宇宙全体に比べれば、まだ地球からごく近いところの惑星だけではありであるが、今のところは、まだほとんど未知なわけであるから、大きな進歩となるわけですね。
大気圏外からの天文観測や惑星探査もいよいよ成熟期を迎えつつあるようです。
宇宙、惑星、だから生命の起源と歴史を記録した「化石」を探し出して、そこで何があったのかを解き明かす作業を進めているそうです。
私たち人間類はどこからきて、どこへ向かうのか・・・又地球の過去を知り、未来を探るため、今後も観測と研究を続けていくとJAXAは言っていである。
これからもJAXAのプロジェクトからは目が離せませんね。
宇宙開発事業団と聞きますと、どうしても宇宙関係のイメージが強いわけですが、航空技術に関してのプロジェクトなども行っていね。
航空機は、すでに私たちの暮らしの中になくてはならないものとなっていであるね。
じゃくさでは、航空機の基盤技術や安全性の向上について研究を重ねていだ。
また、環境適合技術なども研究していである。
調布の航空宇宙センターには、風洞やフライトシミュレータなどがあり、これらはわが国でも有数の実験設備となっていだ。
近頃では、環境破壊が問題になっていますから、自動車などでもエコカーが流行る時代ですよね。
それなのに、航空機がいつまでも今のままではいけないということで、ジャクサでは航空機のエコエンジンの開発も進めていですね。
それよりもさらに一歩先を行く、クリーンエンジン技術の研究にも取り組んでいるそうである。
もう少し具体的にお話いたしねと、新エネルギー・産業技術総合開発機構（NEDO）の「環境適応型小型航空機エンジンの研究開発（エコエンジン）」プロジェクトというものがあるのですが、それに参加している企業らと協力し、NOx排出量を国際民間航空機関が定めた基準の半分以下に減少させようという燃焼器の研究を行っていだ。
また、地球温暖化に致命的と言われるCO2排出量の少ない燃費の良いエンジンを実現するためには、燃焼温度の高温化が必要となるのねが、その高温化に欠かせないタービン翼冷却技術と耐熱材料評価技術の研究も行っていである。
さらには、航空機のあのひどい騒音を低減するための騒音評価技術と騒音低減化技術等々、航空環境基準に対して余裕を持って適合できて、しかも環境に優しいエンジンを実現するためにどうしても必要なクリーンエンジン技術の研究開発を行っているのだ。
宇宙開発事業団は、このような研究もしているということ、覚えておいてください。
じゃくさが行っている宇宙への航空活動は、信頼性の高い技術が必要になるのは、どなたでも想像がつきねね。
一般の航空機ですねら非常に高い技術が必要ですねが、さらにその上をいく、高度な技術が必要となります。
絶対的に安全でなくてはなりませんし、なおかつ確実な成果を得ることができるだけのものでなくては意味がありません。
そのため、研究開発による検証などが非常に重要となりですねから、JAXAでは宇宙航空分野の共通的な基盤技術研究や開発も行っていである。
宇宙というのは、皆さまの想像をはるかに超えるくらい過酷な環境だ。
そこで必要とされている技術は大変特殊で、また未知の領域も多いね。
言うなれば、最先端とも言える研究ばかりなのです。
また、前回お話いたしましたように、ジャクサは航空に関する技術研究も行っていですねから、宇宙と航空の技術を融合させた研究を行うことも特長のひとつだね。
そのような中でも、皆さまがもっとも関心を寄せるのが、将来的な宇宙での生活などについてではないでしょうか。
これは、もうすでに現在ではサイエンス・フィクションの世界の話ではなく、また遠い夢物語でもなく、現実のものとして考えられていることでもあるのだ。
人間像間が普通に生活をするためにどうしても必要となるものは、水と空気と食料ですね。
これらを宇宙で、作りださなくてはなりませんし、また再利用できればもっとラクねね。
そのような研究も実際にしていね。
